Blessings from God wrapped in a school play.

April 16, 2009

I have to laugh at how many times I go out of my comfort zone and think that I am going to be a blessing to someone.  Aren’t I the good christian girl?? In actuality, nearly without fail, I am the one blessed far more than I have blessed.

Case and point is I have been helping my buddy, Mitzy, with the Church’s school play.  I get to play a granny type ( and I do a little singing and rapping.. that enough should encourage you to see the play haha!).  Originally I went into this with an attitude of “well, I love Mitzy and she needs help so I will be the go to girl”.  While I don’t doubt i have been a help I must admit that I have already gotten so much out of being involved.

1. It has forced me to not isolate myself at home.  I am actually going to church 1 or 2 times a week for play practice.  This has helped so much with shielding me from the depressing winds of the soul.  Anytime you are in this kind of situation I highly recommend surrounding yourself with great christian friends.   God is so good and He knew that I needed his people around me in a real way not just prayerfully.  (I need both trust me so DON”T STOP PRAYING! hehe)

2. I have grown to know some of my childrens friends in a more real way.  knitting my family even more into God’s home for us.  I have a real affection for the children of our church.  It’s good to see that my children will be growing up with godly kiddos.

3. I am learning so much from this play.  Not only that going outside of yourself helps you grow but the actual scripture story of Daniel has been speaking to me so much.  I want to Dare to be a Daniel in today’s world.  Not only by going to church regularly but by not being afraid of being the only Gospel that some may ever see/read.  May His love be evident in my life!

1 chronicles16:34

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Have you ever had a situation where God blessed you in a very real way when you least expected it?  I would love to hear about it.

    Hi there. Your post was very timely!
    We moved to a new area when we got married slightly over a year ago and because we both work 20 miles away (in opposite directions) we don’t really know that many people locally yet. At the same time we are church hunting which is SO hard (in a good way) because there are so many excellent churches all within about 10 mins of us. Anyway recently I have been feeling a bit blue because I fret that we don’t know many people or have Christian friends living near us etc. Well on Sunday evening we decided to go the evening service of a church we have visited a few times and really liked. We assumed it started at 7pm (like most other churches I know of) and arrived in the church carpark about 1 minute after. No one else appeared to be arriving late so we creeped into the church where the minister was just beginning the sermon… Eeeek! The actual service had begun at 6.30pm. Of course we chose a squeaky seat so lots of people saw us arrive. I was MORTIFIED. However we really enjoyed the sermon and afterwards, as we apologised to the minister for being so late, he invited us back to the manse for supper with a few other couples. I wasn’t sure about going (I am paranoid about giving the impression that we might join any church in case we go with a different one and end up offending people!) but my husband accepted the invitation with good grace. And boy am I glad he did! We had a wonderful evening. In that “Northern-Ireland-Chrisitian-community-where-everyone-knows-everyone-else” way that we have over here, we ended up making connections with basically everyone in the room and disovered that one couple, also relatively newly married, live in our village. I think I have new Chrisitan friends!! So, in a very long winded way, I wanted to share how God has blessed me recently in such a practical and real way. I feel so much better too!

      What an encouraging testimony of God’s grace when we go outside of our normal comfort zones. Thank you so much for sharing. I am sure that there is someone who needs that extra encouragement.

      Thank you again. 🙂
