Psalm 13 (English Standard Version)

Psalm 13

How Long, O LORD?
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1(A) How long, O LORD? Will you(B) forget me forever?
How long will you(C) hide your face from me?
2How long must I take(D) counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

3(E) Consider and answer me, O LORD my God;
(F) light up my eyes, lest(G) I sleep the sleep of death,
4(H) lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am(I) shaken.

5But I have(J) trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall(K) rejoice in your salvation.
6I will sing to the LORD,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

Who hasn’t felt as the Psalmist did so many years ago?  I know that there have been so many times when I have suffered and felt that God was not within my reach because I felt that I had the power to push him that far away from myself.  How thankful am I that was not the case.  I know that even when I sat in the darkness He was there enfolding me in his arms.

This past Sunday I heard a fantastic sermon on this Psalm titled The Suffering preached by Jeff Purswell.   I was moved to tears while sitting in my chair taking notes, perchance I related too well to this topic.  I have included the link to the sermon because I feel that it is that relevant to everyday faith.  If you choose to listen to this sermon may it bless you as much as it blessed me.

May you feel God’s arms enfolding you with his love even while tears are streaming down your face.

    I blogged on this too. It was so powerful! Have you ever read “A Sacred Sorrow” by Michael Card? I highly recommend it. It’s on this topic, if you want to delve into it more.
