whose household is it anyway?

May 19, 2008

Ronan led our family in devotions for the first time last night. I think it was really important for the boys to see that it is ok for “men” to talk about God. As a family, I believe that we need to have this basic platform.. God first . This makes the family stronger!

Now here is my question to you. Is it the man’s place as head of household to lead the family spiritually, specifically in family devotions?

Choose Whom You Will Serve
Joshua 24:14-15

14 “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

To answer your question, yes, since Dad is a believer. He is called to lead, but that doesn’t mean he can’t or shouldn’t delegate from time to time. In our house, I had to lead them during homechooling hours since he left in the mornings before we were all up and because Bible was its own subject, not just devotions. In the evenings when we’re both here, he prefers to take the reins with it (God’s Story with Joel). it’s rare that our older kids are home before we’re ready for bed, so “family” devotions are mostly a thing of the past, unfortunately.

Thanks for your input Zo! I tend to think along the same lines. It is interesting to me to hear what other peoples opinions are, I like a good conversation about things that matter. 😉
