Time to get the leaven out aka a christian girl raised with a Messianic Jewish papa

How blessed am I to have been raised by a loving Messianic Jew! I have wonderful Jewish family on my step fathers side. Most of which are more traditional Jews. My father came to His saving Grace. He accepted Yeshua as the Messiah that His people have been waiting so many generations when I was just a child. Because of this mixed heritage I enjoyed while growing up both Passover and Easter as well as Christmas and Hannukah.

I have always considered true Christianity as fulfillment of Jewish prophesy. We should honor our spiritual heritage (even if we don’t all have a Jewish step dad) 😉

My parents used to host such beautiful sedars. I used to love to hear the prophesy and being told the story of the exodus again. It is a cherished childhood memory. This is a part of my heritage which i want to share with my children.

So, what exactly is Passover? One thing it isn’t is just an excuse to do that fly lady clean up that we have all been meaning to do. It also doesn’t have to be a boring ritualistic meal without meaning. But why is this night different than any other night? (Yes, I did just steal a phrase from my father’s passover haggadah)

This is a time of remembrance of God’s awesome grace towards the Jewish people during the time of Exodus. Quick. Who can name the ten plagues of the Exodus?
1 blood instead of water in the land of Egypt
2 Frogs flee the water and descend en masse onto the land
3 lice covers everything. (I am itchy just typing this)
4flies swarming
5 Death of Egyptian cattle
6Hail and thunder destroy the land. killing man and crops
7 boils
8 locusts
9 darkness consumes the land for 3 days
10 Firstborn children die

These plagues befell everyone in the land, except for those who had the blood of the sacrificial lamb on their door ways. Those households were passed over when the plagues hit.

Yes. Passover is a celebration when we remember that Jehovah saved those marked for death in the plague by the sacrifice of a perfect spotless lamb. It is through this sacrifice that the Jewish people were led out of Slavery into freedom and began their journey to the Promised land.

Exodus 12:27 (English Standard Version)
you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the LORD’s Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.'” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.

The Passover account is a dramatic one. So telling how fearsome and loving our God is to his people.

Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe,
Who sanctified us with his commandments, and commanded us to be a light to the nations
and Who gave to us Jesus our Messiah
the Light of the world.
