happy St. Patrick’s day

March 17, 2008

This is a day that my family has a lot of fun. No, we are not big drinkers, so we don’t have an alcohol fest for ones from 15 months to 36 years old ;). We keep it more low key. St patrick’s day is supposed to be a day of remembrance of how St Patrick brought the truth of the Trinity to the native celts of Ireland. As a family we do like to celebrate not only our irish heritage but also our christian heritage as well.

Fun films for family viewing tonight

The quiet man with John Wayne and Maureen o’Hara

The secret of Roan Inish

Into the West with Gabriel Byrne a story of tinkers (travelers) in Ireland. it’s a tear jerker!

waking ned devine

I am not sure which one we will watch, but any of them will be a good time.

For dinner tonight we are having a nice traditional dinner of Bacon and cabbage with turnips and potatoes. YUMMY.

the bacon is just regular smoked breakfast bacon fried up.

boiled cabbage (til the leaves are tender) served with butter salt and pepper.

Turnips.. i like rutabagas (yellow turnip) which is first boiled. secondly mashed. thirdly fried with onions and butter.

boiled potatoes with butter, salt and peper

ummm.. definitely not a low carb meal 😉

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

We’re doing the corned beef with our cabbage, and a pot of colcannon, mashed potatoes with kale and a whole stick of butter. Ditto on the low carbs. 🙂 Happy Day to ye!

happy SPD to you, too! I was thinking of you. and got my green on.

I had to laugh when I read your movie list and descriptions. I was reading too fast and thought that line said, “a story of stinkers” .

    Hope you had fun y’day??

Despite my being Scottish and there being no Irish between the five of us adults, we all got together today to celebrate with corned beef and cabbage. I put the corned beef in the crock pot with water and spices at 10am, then at 4pm added the quartered potatoes and shredded cabbage. I served dinner at about 6pm, with a side of peas. It was lovely, tasty, and easy to clean up, thank heavens.

You wouldn’t recognize my kitchen, btw. C made me and sis shelves for that terrible corner, and now it’s all neat and clean and lovely!
